Enriching the High Tech Brain Trust: New Naval Reserve ED's

November 1993
During FY 1993 the High Tech Brain Trust was enriched with 36 new Naval Reserve Engineering Duty Officers! Twenty joined us by direct commission and 16 were line transfers.

They are all accomplished in their civilian technical jobs and passed the vigorous standards to become ED's. Eight of our new colleagues have a Professional Engineering certification in at least one of the states of the United States.

Educational accomplishment is equally striking. Six have either earned a doctorate or are in a doctoral program. Thirty are at the masters degree level. And there are 40 bachelor's degrees among the 36 officers. The disciplines are widely varied with emphasis on electronics and mechanical engineering. Many have rich credentials in computer-oriented technology, as well.

THE ED BALL IN WASHINGTON

Another dimension of richness for the ED Reserve community was the social setting of the ED Ball in Washington. The Ball was held on Saturday, 6 November 1993. Over three hundred attended. The Naval Reserve contingent was fifty. It was an opportunity to renew friendships. The ED network is important to us all. Everything we do is done with the help and assistance of other people. As the world changes around us - at a very rapid pace - the need for cooperation and interconnection becomes more acute.

We all need to keep the traditions alive that strengthen and bond our ED community - with each other in the Regular and Reserve segments - but also with our Navy clients of all designators and ratings. Try to attend an ED Ball in your area. At the Ball here in Washington we had attendees from as far away as Florida and Michigan.

We are all getting busier but we need to take the time to reflect on what is going on around us. I welcome the new ED's into our community - and remind all of us to have some fun at what we are doing, too.

I hope to see you all at the Multi REDCOM Technical Training Meetings - East Coast in March at Arlington, Virginia, and West Coast in April at San Francisco. Try to get to both if you can. You will enrich the "High Tech Brain Trust" by both learning and networking.
